Stanhope: Bushwick 2012-2018
There is a stark contrast between the residents of Stanhope in Brooklyn: half being affluent or middle class students and professionals that commute to the city, who typically live no more than two years in the neighborhood, resulting in a assembly line of people always moving in and moving out; the other half are a dwindling number of local residents.
The Stanhope neighborhood, as is extremely common for Brooklyn nowadays, is experiencing a period of rapid growth and change. Unfortunately, the original owners of many of the buildings are being bought out with cash offers from business minded landlords, and because of various legal loopholes the original residents are being forced out. Some of Stanhope still remains as a rapidly disappearing yet unique micro-culture, and it is this that I have tried to capture, record, and honor with my photographs.
